- Title
- Glossolalia
- Year
- 1967
- Instrumentation
- for baritone voice, organ, percussion, and electronic sounds
- Notes
- The text, from Psalm 150, is exploited for its phonic qualities as well as its literal meaning, and the effect of glossolalia (speaking in toungues) is often the result. The work is a ritual in that the central instrument, the organ, is invoked from the outset by the others; the organ takes aural shape only gradually, the sound of its bellows being heard before the sound of its pipes, attaining full definition only at the end.
- Reviews
- "Forceful, almost demonic music, which devours as well as discloses the text."
